Contact the Vinny Keates newsroom
Use this page to reach the newsroom with a story tip, a correction, or a general question. Messages go to NicholasWillis@vinnykeates.com, and the phone line is +17184697363. The mailing address is 315 E 29th St, Brooklyn, NY 11226, USA.
How to reach us
Every message reaches the same desk
Tips, corrections, interview requests and questions about our coverage all land in one inbox, read by the same small editorial team that files the reporting. There is no general switchboard and no separate department to hunt down.
Pick the route that fits what you are sending. Corrections move first because a wrong case detail in a legal story can mislead a reader for longer than it takes to fix it. Tips are read in the order they arrive. General notes and permissions requests sit behind breaking coverage, which is why a time-sensitive one benefits from a phone call.
If your message concerns the franchise beat, say so in the subject line. Announcements about Shipley Do-Nuts openings, promotions and filings are tracked as their own running story.

Write to the desk
One form, routed to the right reader
Tell us which kind of message this is and the desk sorts it without a reply asking you to repeat yourself. Give us enough on the first pass to check the claim: what happened, where you saw it, and what document or record backs it up.
We cannot confirm receipt of every message individually, and we do not accept payment for coverage. Anything you send is handled under the terms set out on our Privacy Policy.
The desk reads every message before the day closes. Corrections are checked against the original source material, not against a second summary of it.
Slow, checkable reporting is the only thing worth sending a tip for.
Story tips
Sending a story tip
Tell us what you know, how you know it, and whether we can quote you by name. First-hand accounts carry further than forwarded ones, so say plainly which part you saw yourself.
If you need to stay anonymous, say so at the start and tell us what we can verify independently. We do not publish a factual claim that no named source supports, and that limit shapes what we can do with an anonymous tip.
- Documents help more than summaries, particularly franchise agreements, court filings, and promotion terms.
- Name the people or companies involved and what each one is accused of, or what each one did well.
- Give a date or a window when the thing happened. It tells the desk how fast the story is moving.
- Say whether anyone else is already looking at it, so we know what has been checked and what has not.
- Leave a phone number if you can. Two minutes of questions often saves a day of email.
Corrections
Reporting an error
Send the story headline, the specific sentence, and what the correct information is. You do not need to be the subject of the story to flag a mistake — a reader who spots a wrong date, a misspelled name, or a misread court filing is doing the same useful work as the person named on the page.
Corrections appear on the story itself with the date and what changed, so the record stays honest for anyone who reads the piece afterwards. The full practice, including how we label a correction against a clarification, is set out on our Editorial Standards page.
What a usable correction includes
- The headline of the story, so the desk can find the piece without a search.
- The sentence at fault, quoted close enough that it can be matched on sight.
- The correct fact, with a source the desk can check on its own.
- A note if the mistake changes the meaning of the story rather than just a detail.
General inquiries
Republishing, interviews and coverage questions
For republishing requests, interview requests, or questions about our coverage, write to the same address with "general" in the subject line. If you are asking about a specific article, include its headline so we can find it quickly. We handle these in the order they arrive.
A republishing request moves faster when you say where the piece will appear, whether it will be edited or run as written, and whether a credit line back to the original will be included.
Consumer and franchise desk
Retail and franchising announcements
If you work in franchising or retail and want to send a deal announcement, market-entry filing, or promotion detail, send the document rather than a summary. We report company announcements as company statements, and we say so in the copy — which means the value of sending the filing itself is that the wording can be attributed accurately.
Details about the Shipley Do-Nuts beat go to the same inbox, along with expansion agreements, franchisee counts and limited-time promotion terms. Recent coverage includes the chain's move into Ohio with a three-unit Cincinnati agreement and its ninetieth-anniversary promotions. You can follow those on the Consumer beat, or browse the full News Archive.
Ground rules
What we cannot do
Being clear about the limits saves everyone a wasted exchange. These are not policies we can bend for a good story, because they are the reason a tip is worth anything in the first place.
Response times
Corrections are handled first, especially in legal reporting where a wrong case detail can mislead. Tips are reviewed as they come in. General inquiries may take longer, particularly when the newsroom is busy with a story that is moving. If you have not heard back and the matter is time-sensitive, call +17184697363.
If a request needs a response by a specific date, say so in the first line, and we will tell you if it is feasible — before the deadline rather than after it.
Where to find us
The Brooklyn desk
The newsroom works out of 315 E 29th St, Brooklyn, NY 11226, USA. Post and deliveries arrive here; the desk is staffed Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
Visits are by arrangement only. If you are a source who would rather not use email, call +17184697363 and say what the call concerns.
Where to go next
If you would rather read than write
Not every visitor comes with a tip. Some arrive with a question about how a story was reported, or with a habit of reading the week's brief before it lands in the inbox. Both routes are open below.
