Browse every section of the brief

This page lists the sections we publish under so you can go straight to the beat you follow. Each one carries its own reporting, and stories that touch two beats are filed under the one closest to the main development, with links to the other.

How filing works

One primary section, with links to the rest

A story gets one primary section and, where relevant, links to the others. If you cannot find something, the news archive lists everything in chronological order, and the search field on that page covers headlines and summaries.

Corrections stay attached to the original story rather than moving between sections, so the place you first read a piece is the place you will find the fix. We do not split a single development across five feeds to lift the numbers, and we do not quietly re-file a story that has started to travel.

Start with the two beats visitors ask about most

World carries armed conflict, diplomacy and regional security. Consumer carries brands, franchises and retail marketing, including the standing Shipley Do-Nuts beat. Both are open to read without an account.

The beats we publish

Eight groupings

World

Armed conflict, diplomacy, and regional security across the Middle East, Europe, and South Asia. Current entries include the U.S. president's assessment of Iran's latest peace proposal, Iran's preparations for a broader response if struck again, Ukraine's warning about a possible major Russian attack, and the India-Pakistan diplomatic exchange after a border incident.

Politics

Leaders, elections, and political rhetoric. This is where you will find Putin's Oct. 1, 2026 remarks on international conflict and Western influence, and the Israeli campaign shaped by families directly affected by the Oct. 7 attack, with the vote due later in October 2026.

Economy

Elections, fiscal pressure, and borrowing costs. The section currently carries Reuters' Oct. 2, 2026 report on how a broad set of global elections, including Brazil, the United States, and Israel, is feeding into market expectations, plus the economic effects of sanctions and deployments.

What this section tracks

  • Reuters Says a Broad Set of Global Elections Is Influencing Markets

Election calendars in Brazil, the United States and Israel as a driver of market expectations.

  • Sanctions and their effects

How restrictions on trade, shipping and finance pass through to prices and borrowing costs.

  • Military deployments in budget terms

What sustained deployments and new commitments add to the fiscal picture.

Justice

Courts and capital punishment, with a focus on the United States.

Current coverage includes the Texas execution reported by AP News as the year's 30th in the country and the first since Tennessee's failed lethal-injection attempt involving Christa Pike. Where a case moves between state and federal courts, we follow both filings and note which one currently holds the case.

Consumer

Brands, franchises, and retail marketing, including the standing Shipley Do-Nuts beat. Recent entries cover the three-unit Cincinnati franchise agreement tied to Koelache Co. LLC and the 10-week 90th-anniversary promotion with rotating value offers and limited-time birthday donuts.

Open the Consumer section

Europe and Asia

Regional groupings that collect Europe and Asia coverage alongside the main beats. Ukraine's intelligence warning sits in Europe; the India-Pakistan border exchange sits in Asia. Both remain accessible from the World section as well, so a reader who follows one conflict does not have to learn a second filing habit.

Middle East and Business

The Middle East grouping collects Iran, Israel, and Yemen coverage in one place. Business carries franchise and market-entry stories, including the Shipley Do-Nuts expansion, alongside the consumer desk, so a reader tracking a brand can see who signed the agreement as well as what it cost.

If a beat you want is not listed

Write to the desk with the subject and a link to the coverage you are looking for. We answer Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and a request for a section we do not run yet is useful to hear.
